BILL FERGUSONManaging Director
- Bill has been working in the scaffold industry for over 25 years. Bill started his scaffold design career when he joined Scaffolding Great Britain (SGB) as part of the scaffold design team. Duties included site surveys; material take-offs, design drawings and associated calculations, instruction of site operatives and certification of designed and erected scaffold structures.
During Bill’s career with SGB he became responsible for overseeing the full design service for 10 operating depots, throughout Scotland. In addition Bill was responsible for the Temporary Roof Design for Plettac Weather Protection Division & Petrochemical work at Grangemouth Refinery.
In early 1995 Bill established Scaftec Limited, an independent design consultancy that provides full technical back up for Independent Scaffold Contractors, Main Contractors, Consulting Engineers, and Architects etc. Scaftec has Professional Indemnity Insurance cover of £1,000,000 and operates from a centrally located base providing a nationwide, offshore and international service.

DONALD MACIVER BADirector
- Donald has been working in the Scaffolding and Formwork industry for nearly 30 years. Donald started his career with as an apprentice draughtsman with SGB. Donald has worked in a number of regional offices and sites throughout the UK carrying out design work, design checks, site inspections and client liaison for formwork and scaffolding design projects.
In 1992 Donald became a Regional Engineer responsible for the design and design management of the Falsework for the Skye Bridge Project. During this time Donald was also involved in the formwork design to the Harding Platform reinforced concrete sub-sea structure.
Donald joined Scaftec Limited in 1997 and is responsible for the design & checking of various scaffolding projects, along with the preparation of associated calculations and detailed construction drawings. Donald has extensive experience in the preparation of scaffold designs from initial site visits, liaison with Main Contractors, Consulting Engineers, Architects and Scaffold Contractors.
Familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.
Donald was appointed Director in 2007.

STEVEN TORRANCE BScEngineer
- After leaving University Steven worked on a number of construction sites with varying roles. During this time Steven worked for Kwikform UK as a trainee scaffolder working mainly with tube and fitting scaffolds throughout the Glasgow Area.
In 1998 Steven joined NSG Scaffolding Ltd working mainly with aluminium small work projects. Steven worked on numerous contracts erecting system scaffolds around new house types.
In 1999 Steven joined Scaftec and is now responsible for the design of various scaffolding projects, along with the preparation of associated calculations and detailed construction drawings.
Projects vary in complexity from general access scaffolds to larger bridged and cantilevered accesses. Site visits to collect information & discuss client requirements. Final scaffold inspections to ensure compliance with design drawings.
Familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.

SCOTT MULHERONEngineer
- Scott joined Scaftec Ltd as a trainee Scaffold Designer in October 2003. During his 4 year apprenticeship Scott attended Stow College Glasgow studying for an HNC in Civil Engineering.
Scott is currently studying towards a Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering at Stow College Glasgow.
Scott has worked on a wide variety of projects, varying in complexity from general access scaffolds to larger bridged and cantilevered accesses. Site visits to collect information & discuss client requirements. Final scaffold inspections to ensure compliance with design drawings.
Familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.

GAVIN DEMPSEY BEng (Hons)Engineer
- After leaving Glasgow University Gavin worked with JM Dynamics working in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Gavin joined Scaftec Limited in 2006 and is responsible for the design & checking of various scaffolding projects, along with the preparation of associated calculations and detailed construction drawings.
Gavin has worked in the preparation of scaffold designs from initial site visits, liaison with Main Contractors, Consulting Engineers, Architects and Scaffold Contractors.
Familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems
Gavin has considerable knowledge in the design of temporary roofing systems using P Frame analysis software.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.
Gavin is currently working towards Incorporated Engineer Status.

GRANT KEYS BEng (Hons) C Eng MICEEngineer
- Grant has eight years post graduate experience carrying out design work within the construction industry.
After graduating from The University of Strathclyde, Grant worked with Jacobs gaining extensive design and project management experience on large Civil Engineering projects. During his time with Jacobs, Grant was seconded to Transport Scotland and was responsible for the project management and delivery of a portfolio of projects throughout Scotland.
Grant joined Scaftec in January 2008 and is familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.
Grant became a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in October 2007.

FRASER FREEBURN HND Civil EngineeringEngineer
- Fraser joined Scaftec Ltd as a trainee Scaffold Designer in July 2008 after studying at Stow college for a HND in Civil Engineering. Fraser is currently attending Glasgow Caledonian University part time studying a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Civil Engineering.
Fraser is familiar with traditional scaffold tube and fitting structures and the majority of system scaffolds, along with the modern modular systems.
Designs take in all types of scaffolding structures from standard access scaffolding to support platforms and shoring applications.
